BOXING.
HUGHES-OXLEY CONTEST
Ted Oxley, the brilliant Southern.lightweight, who has not had a decieion against hW in liis last 19 starts, will make hie first appearance in Auckland at the Town Hall next Tuesday evening, when he will claeh with Archie Huffhes in n scheduled 15-round bout, but whether or not the fight will so the distance remains to be seen. Both men arc heavy punchers, as well ae clever boxers. Hughee has been chasiujr a title bout for a lonj? time, and to be beaten by Oxley will be a severe setback; in fact, it would blast his hopes of a, title match, and that does not appeal to the eniart little Australian, who has been putting in plenty, of hard work in preparation for a hard fight. Oxley is a lighter as well as a boxer, .and, according to report, he is faet with hands and feet, with a penchant for mixing matters, and it is against thie type of opponent. that Hughes is eeen at his best. With two such men opposed a fine contest seems assured, and with leading amateurs in supporting boute, a great night of boxmg ought to be eeen.
