SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An evening in aid of V.\& funds of the tennis club wae given by Mre. V. L. Drummond at her home in Merchant Street, Putaruru, An enjoyable time was spent in progressive bridge, the prize being won by Mre. K BickneM and the consolation prize going to Miss M. Henshaw, Among those present were: Mesdames Rees, Drummond, Smith, Henshaw, Bicknell, Bailey, Missee Henshaw and Barnett, Mesere. Drummond, S. Mason, K. Bicknell, R. Smith, V. Bailey, W. Tuck and R. Patterson.

A benefit dance was held at the Kingeford Hall, Otahuhu, last Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. D. Mclntyre and Mr. Carter and Mrs. B. Taylor were the winners in the Monte Carlo events. The statue hesitation waltz was won by Mr. A. Bradbury and Miss M. Speed. Among those present were: Mesdames E. Kemp, E. Jones, A. Bacon, Little, D. Mclntyre, B. Taylor, D. Carter, Griffiths, G. The parish hall, Otahuhu, presented a happy scene on Tuesday evening, γ-hen the Holy Trinity Social Club held a dance. A large attendance thoroughly enjoyed a good programme of popular old-time selections, as well as extras played by Mrs. N. Walters, Miss K. Fenton and Miss Pirie. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mre. H. C. Fenton and Mrs. H. Palmer. Tables were provided for the bridge players, and the prizes were won by Mrs. W, H. Payne and Mrs. -R. Fuller. Among those present were: Mesdames W. H. Payne, H. C. The 'Interhouse Club rooms were crowded last Saturday evening, when the Eden Rugby Football Club held a dance. The supper tables were decorate.! with Iceland poppies. Among thoee present were: Mre. The Epsom W.C.T.U. held the annual Little White Ribboners' afternoon last week in the Methodist Hall. Mrs. Neal presided. An address on the word "bar" was given by Mrs. Kirkpatrick, who also contributed a recitation. A etory for the children was given by Mrs. Carr, and a talk to the mothers by Mrs. Kasper.

Mrs. Sloper presided at t"he meeting of the Tokoroa branch of the women's division of the Farmers' Union. The annual dance proved a success, and from the proceeds the branch gave £2 to the community chest. A competition for the best article costing not more than one shilling was won by Mrs. Dewis with a pine needle jardiniere. Mesdames C. Oliver, Mathiesen and Price were hostesses.
