TRAP CRITICISED.

SPEEDSTERS AT WAIKUMETE.

MAGISTRATE'S COMMENT,

The speed trap on the Waikumete Hill on the Great North Road was criticised by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who presided over the Magistrate's Court yesterday when 29 motorists were before him for speeding.

The traffic inspector for the Waitemata County Council, A. H. Taylor, who prosecuted, stated that the speed of the defendants' cars was from 34 to 40 miles per Lour over the length of the trap, which was 220 yards. The majority ot those charged pleudod guilty, but stated that they drove their cars carefully and always had them in perfect control.

"Yes, I know," said Mr. Hunt. "I appreciate that fact and do not agree with the trap at all. It's a rotten trap, but that matter has already been thrashed out, so I have to impose fines as long as the authority operates this particular trap."
