LAKE OVERFLOWS.
RECORD FLOOD LEVEL
IMPROVEMENT NOTED TO-DAY
FURIOUS TORRENT TO.SEA.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
CABTERTON , , this day.
There is little further to report on the floode. Practically the whole of the northern area is free of water, but the lower valley is still deeply cpvered. Soldier eettlere at the Pahautea settlement eased most of the water, but .the subsidence round this area pute tremendoue volume into the lake, which has risen to a height well above all previous records. It is reported that the lake waters overflowed the bank, but the waters on both sides of the bank were practically on the same level and no damage waa ilonev Most of the settlers in the Kahutara district gathered along the lakeside are watching the waters and report a fall of a few inches since last night. This is taken as an indication that the worst k over. The outlet to the sea is running furiously, but the five or six miles of narrows between the lakes seriouely impede the flow from tie upper lake. The rainfall for the month of August was 8.4 inches. To-day further rain has fallen and the sky is overcast. No further trouble is anticipated.
