CHRISTCHURCH INCIDENT. KEEN AUTOGRAPH HUNTER. VENTURESOME THROUGH DRINK. (By Telegraph.—Own Corespondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Henry Hogan Foote, a man who caused a stir in Cathedral Square yesterday afternoon by taking a seat beside the Governor-General in the Vice-Regal car, was called on for an explanation in the Police Court this morning. In view of the fact that his Excellency had expressed a desire that punishment should not be severe, Poote, who is a traveller, was convicted and discharged, a prohibition order being issued against him. "I am a keen autograph hunter," Foote told Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., "and when I was outside the Governor's hotel a constable told me the Governor would be out at any moment. I have every respect for his Excellency, and when he told me 1 should not be there I got out of the ear. T had ju3t had sufficient drink to make me venturesome. I can't say how sorry I am, and I am prepared to take out a prohibition order." The magistrate said that his Excellency had been good enough to inform the Superintendent of Police that no disrespect or insult to himself or his office had been intended. . ma eP s trate said he would take into consideration the fact that Foote had been locked up since 3 p.m. yesterday, and also that he had expressed regret.
