THEFT OF MOTOR.

TWO MEN SENT TO PRISON.

Two seamen, John Albert Samuelson, aged 26, a.nd Edward McFarland, 23, came before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., at the Police Court this morning, each charged with stealing an electric motor, valued at £2 5/, the property of George Walter Richardson, on July 27. Both pleaded not guilty.

A youth 'employed by Richardson said he saw both men outside his employer's shop in Durham Lane on July 27. Samuelson had the motor under hia arm, and McFarland was waiting outside the shop for him.

Detective Mahood produced a receipt which he said Richardson gave Samuelson when the latter sold the electric motor on June 11 for £1.

Counsel for accused submitted that there was no evidence upon which to convict either accused.

Both men gave evidence denying the theft, SamueJson stating that he did not deny to Detective Mahood that he sold the motor to Richardson. Crossexamined by Detective Sergeant Kelly, both admitted that they had previous convictions,, including breach of probation and theft.

After further evidence had been given the magistrate convicted both men and sentenced each to two months' imprisonment.
