Official Investigation Into Arrest. "FRAMED" BY POLICE. (Received 1 p.m.) OTTAWA, August 8. The Mayor of Toronto, Mr. Stewart, has ordered an investigation _ of the arrest of Dan Malone, who is alleged to have threatened to shoot Mr. Thomas. Police officials declare that Malone is a Sinn Feiner, but it develops that he has no Irish connections. He was one of the Communistic leaders in the unemployed demonstration at Ottawa last week. It is claimed that if the man made threats they were not meant seriously. In any case Mr. Thomas did not stop at Hamilton. He went direct to Welland on Saturday with the second official party, whereas the first party inspected Hamilton's extensive engineering works.
The unemployed declare, that the police attempted to "frame" Malone by placing a revolver on the running-board of the motor car in which he was travelling to Ottawa last week. The police deny this. There is no evidence that Malone ever preached violence or carried firearms. Mr. Thomas dismisses the matter with a laugh. NO WHEAT EXPORTS. RUSSIAN CROP SMALL. (Received 1 p.m.) OTTAWA, August 8. Advices from London state that the Russian wheat crop was so small that no export is available unless food supplies are sacrificed for political purposes.
