OLYMPIC RIOT.
WATER POLO PLAYERS ATTACK REFEREE. POLICE TO THE RESCUE. (Received 2.30 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, August 8. In the field hockey semi-final Japan defeated the United States by nine goals to two. A riot broke out at the Olympic plunge late on Monday, when the Brazilian water polo team protested against the decision rendered by B. Komjadi, the Hungarian referee.
The Brazil and German teams attacked him in a body as the game ended. The police and pool attendants rushed.to the rescue of the referee as fists flew.
Many German and Brazilian countrymen rushed past the guards on to the pool's edge.
Germany won by seven goals to three after repeated fouls had Men called on the Brazilians over their protests.
