TIMBER TRADE.
NEW AWARD WANTED. CONCILIATION COUNCIL MEETS. A conciliation council, presided over by Mr. W. Newton, of Wellington, who is taking the place of Mr. P. Hally, absent on sick leave, met this morning in the rooms of the Employers' Association to hear an application from the employers for a new award in the timber industry in the Auckland district. The employers were represented by Messrs. J. A. Bush, H. B. Coupe, D. J. L. Clayton, and G. L. Knight, with Mr. S. E. Wright as advocate; and the union was represented by Messrs. T. Inglis, F. Bevan, F. Davies, and F. Langston, with Mr. E. Phfelan as advocate. The terms suggested by the employers, as published recently in the " Star," provide for modification of the present conditions of work in the trade.
Proceedings were in private. A general discussion had not ended when the lunch hour adjournment arrived, and proceedings were continued this afternoon.
