OBITUARY.

MR. JOSEPH BLADES. On© of th© oldest barristers and solicitors of Auckland, Mr. Joseph Blades, died suddenly this morning' at his home in Eglinton Avenue, Mount Eden, x Although 80 years of age, Mr. Blades worked right up to the last, and he was at liis office, that of Messrs. Brookfield, Prendergast and Schnauer, yesterday, and left at the usual liour for home. He was suffering from a bronchial cold, and during the night suddenly became worse, and his death occurred at 4 a.m. to-day. Mr. Blades had lived in the Auckland district the greater part of his life. He was articled to Mr. Tyler, a prominent barrister and solicitor in the early days. Later he was for some years practising at Thames and was with the firm of Devore and Cooper over 34 years ago. More recently he was with Messrs. Brookfield, Prendergast and Schnauer. Many years ago Mr. Blades was chairman of the Auckland Education Board. He was a bowler, and for a long period belonged to the Ponsonby Olub, more recently being a member of the Auckland Bowling Club. Deceased, is survived by one daughter.

MRS. MARY E. LISK.

The death took place at Auckland Hospital • on August 4, of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lisk, wife of Mr. William Lisk, a well known resident of Takapuna. Mrs. Lisk was born at Campbell's Bay 49 years, ago, being a daughter of the late, Robert and Margaret Johnston, who had lived fit Northcote and Runciman. Mrs. Lisk is survived by her husband, two sons, and two daughters. The interment will be to-morrow at O'Neill's Point Cemetery.

MR. P. V. NORMAN.

A former resident of Hamilton, Mr. P. Vigot Norman, has died. A cable giving this information was received by relatives from the Under-Secretary of State for Singapore. Mr. Norman, after a brilliant University carcer, became a member of the firm of Sims and Norman, civil engineers, Hamilton. He went on active service in the Great War. He was next.appointed to the Government survey staff, Malaya, and at the tims of his death was superintendant of surveys at Kedah. Mr. Norman, who was a keen Rugby and'polo player, captained a team at Johcre for several years. He leaves a vife and infant son.
