ONE CONTROL ADVOCATED.

RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYED, DANGER OF OVERLAPPING. The Soldiers' Mothers League, at a recent meeting passed a resolution, which has been sent to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour, advocating that in the interests of relief wbrkers and their dependents, the Government should prohibit the issue of relief except through the Metropolitan Depot in the Auckland urban area and at Devonport for the North Shore districts. "The multiplicity of depots provides a wide field for overlapping, entails wasted energy and is unfair to the contributing portion of the public. Local organisation could still exist as formerly, but under the one depot control and could I also make recommendations to the metropolitan centres. The latter should as far as possible- be under Government controd, quite apart from any Labour Department, especially as it concerns the supervision of giving out of relief tickets. The league understands that there are 100 persons employed in the Auckland office of the Labour Department, and would wish to know if this large staff comes under the relief distribution."
