ELLERSLIE TRIALS.

THIS MORNING'S WORK. NO FAST TIMES RECORDED. SEVERAL NOVICES SHOW PROMISE. The weather was fine for training at Ellerslie this morning, but a cold southerly wind made uiatters rather unpleasant. All fast work was done on the No. 3 grass, which provided good going, though a shade on the dead side. The sand, tan and two-year-old tracks were also available. The first to work was On Approval, who traversed a round in 1.49 4-5, the last six furlongs, occupying 1.27 2-5. He carried a solid weight and worked better than usual. Gay Cockade and Catoma were companions over six furlongs, running the first three in 38 l-ss, and the full distance in 1.19 3-5. Gay Cockade had a big advantage in the weights and was a shade in front at the finish, but Catoma was inclined to loaf over the last furlong. Hampton Park was given an easy half-mile which he completed in 565, being under a pull throughout. Patutahi got to the end of six furlongs in 1.25 1-5, Wee Pat assisting him over the last half-mile, which took 55 l-ss. Royal Survey was holding the Pantheon —lodine filly safely at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.22 1-5. Royal Survey is in first-class condition tor his spring engagements. Royal Gallant strode over six furlongs in 1.31 2-5, and was anxious to go faster. Kiltowyn jumped off at the six-furlong post, taking 39 l-5s for his first three furlongs, and completed his task in 1.23 1-5. He was going strongly at the finish and is making excellent progress. From, a standing start the Pantheon—Dora's Double filly ran her first furlong in 14 l-ss, two in 275, and got to the end of five furlongs in I.S 1-5. She carried a solid weight and her effort was distinctly pleasing. Thunderstorm and Town Belle were timed to cover a round in 1.52 3-5. There was little between them at the finish. After beginning slowly, Marching Song registered 1.28 3-5 for six furlongs, but could have bettered this time. Wee Musk strode home from the half-mile post in 56 3-ss. TII9 hunters, General Lu and Egyptian King, completed a roimd in 1.49 3-5, the final six furlongs taking 1.25 1-5. Both horses did their work in good style. Corinax was allotted an easy six furlongs, which he covered in 1.30 2-5. This horse is doing exceptionally well, and Will be in first-rate condition for spring racing. Landlubber" was never doing his best at any stage of half a mile, which occupied 57 l-ss. Thespis and Haakon did strong work over a round, running the distance in 1.53 1-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.29 3-5. Thespis, ridden by Chaplin, afterwards jumped two hurdles in the centre, but his display was only fair. Moonfleet ran home from the half-mile post in 56 l-ss. He worked freely and was easing up at the finish.
