EMPLOYMENT OF BOYS.
NEW ORGANISATION. MR. GRIEBLE ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The executive of the Auckland Boys Employment Committee, formed to take over and extend the work which had been undertaken by the Farm and City Careers Bureau, met yesterday, Mr. N. G. Gribble being elected chairman. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, advised the committee that he was greatly interested in the welfare of unemployed youths and intimated that he would favourably consider the committee's invitation that he should act as patron.
The chairman said the committee had been set up for the sole object of assisting boys to make a start in life. Last month 02 boys had been placed ni positions, and it was hoped to double that number this month.
Mr. T. Bloodworth suggested that fully-qualified tradesmen at present on relief works could be engaged to teach boys trades. In the ordinary course of events the men would bo teaching apprentices.
It was decided to leave to a future meeting consideration of the education and tuition of unemployed boys.
