BOARD GRANTED PERMISSION.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Tuesday,
The chairman of the Broadcasting Board, Mr. H. D. Vickery, stated to-day that the board had received permission from the racing authorities to broadcast running descriptions of events ou the programmes of racing and trotting clubs. A start will be made by station 3YA, which will broadcast the events at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting on August 0, August 11 and August 13, and the programmes on August 10 and August 12 of the Metropolitan Trotting Club. Arrangements have been made to broadcast from the board's four stations the Grand National Steeplechase, the Winter Cup and the Grand National Hurdle Race. Other events at both meetings referred to' will be broadcast only from station 3YA. Mr. Vickery stated that, in the meantime, the board proposed to broadcast only from the courses at the four centres, but in special cases it would undoubtedly go further afield.
Mr. Vickery said he desired to pay a tribute to the racing authorities for the courteous treatment extended the board during the course of the negotiations. The board was very much indebted to the members of the recent Racing and Trotting Conferences for the reasonable and businesslike manner in which the whole matter had been handled.
