CITY LIBRARIAN FAREWELLED
Tb;3 city librarian, Mr. John Barr, will leave to-morrow for America. He has been granted six months' leave of absence by the Auckland City Council to enable him to take advantage of the grant made by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, which manages the money left by Andrew Carnegie for the encouragement of education and libraries. During his visit to the United States Mr. Barr will etudy the library systems in use in the main public libraries. Mr. Barr -was entertained recently by the Auckland Booksellers' Association and publishers' representatives at morning tea at Milne and Choyce's Tudor rooms. The president, Mrs. E. W. Moore, presided.
An unusual sight at the shopping centre at Remuera Post Office to-day was a herd of about 20 cattle. They evidently came from along Remuera Road towards the city, and turned down Victoria Avenue. In the heart of the residential area the 6cene is rare, although every year large numbers of livestock are unloaded from trains at the Remuera station, in Market Road, for the A. and P. Association's annual show.
