WASHHOUSE GUTTED.
Fire gutted a washhouse attached to a six-roomed two-storey house situated at 20, Burwood Crescent, . Remuera, last night. The house, owned by Mr. R. P. Hunt and occupied by Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, was not damaged. The call was received by the Remuera brigade at 8.40 p.m., and on arrival the firemen had little difficulty in suppressing the outbreak. The contents were insured with the Phoenix Office, for £350. The brigade deserve special mention for a meritorious save. When it arrived on the scene the flames had a good hold, but the men had them out in just under five minutes.
SNOOKER. CHAMPIONSHIP TObRNEY. There are only a few more games to be played at Jim Phillips' billiard room, H.B. Buildings, Queen Street, in the second round of the Auckland snooker championship, and the interest is increasing daily as the playere are being deleted. Quite, a large audience witnessed the Bax-Fredatovich match, to see Fredatovich, one of best players in the tourney, beaten. On Monday evening Nicholson will play Stewart.
