Then he started dealing in property, but his business did not bring him an adequate return. Just before he died ha wrote two letters which were found in his possession, one addressed to hie mother and the other to the coroner. ' : He said in one letter that he thought he was going mad." added Mrs. Thomas, "that he could not stand the strain much longer, and that he did not wish to be a burden on me. He suffered from shellshock and fits of nervous depression, and he could not stand worry. He was always affectionate to me, and on the day of the tragedy he was more so than usual. Two days before he was strange in his manner. He said then that if things did not get better he would get out; but I asked ii.m not to leave me, and he said he would never do that. Now he has gone, and I am so lonely."
