HOCKEY.
AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. THE DEVONPORT SHIELD. Both matches in the first round of the Auckland Hockey Association's Devonport Shield competition will be played at Remuera to-morrow afternoon at three o'clock, as twenty-two of the players are required for a representative trial at 1.30. This is to assist the selector to decide upou his eleven for the next New Zealand Shield challenge, Poverty Bay having notified their intention of coming for the trophy. As 'Varsity temporarily checked the victorious career of Somerville in the Davis Cup, there are hopes that they will do even better against the championship leaders to-morrow.
