MACHINE BUILT AT LEVIN
ACCIDENT IN LANDING
PILOT'S FORTUNATE ESCAPE
(By Telegraph.—rress Association.) LEVIN, this day. A monoplane constructed in Levin by Mr. Marton Butler, a young motor mechanic, was badly damaged after ite first flight at WaiUrere Beach yesterday. Mr. Butler, who has a pilot's certificate, successfully flew the machine in the afternoon, remaining up about twenty minutes, turning and banking perfectly. Immediately after landing the 'plane struck a soft patch in the sand and the landing gear was doubled up, causing the tip of the 'plane to strike the beach. The blade of the propeller was broken and the undercarriage of the 'plane was extensively damaged. The pilot escaped with a few scratches.
MOTH STRIKES POWER LINE.
UNDERCARRIAGE WRECKED. (By Telegraph,—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. Through striking power lines two miles from Lauristou yesterday afternoon a Moth 'plane, belonging to the Canterbury Aero Club, had ita undercarriage wrecked. The rest of the 'plane was not damaged. A passenger, Miss M. Gibson, was not injured, but the pilot, Flying Ollicer J. R. Richardson, ekinned his nose.
