THE AKARANA CLUB

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES

The prizes won during the thirty-sixth season of the Akarnna Yacht Club were distributed on Saturday evening in the clubhouse. Mechanics' Bay, in the presence of a large gathering of members and visitors from sister clubs on the Waitcmata am! Mnnukau. Tho prizes numbered over 50, and included eight cups. The Trans-Tasnnin Clip occupied the centre, Hanked by the Balokovic Cup and the Trevic Shield. Commodore F. W. Jeffors welcomed tho visitors. He said that the big event of the season was the ISO-mile ocean race for the cup presented by Madame Balokovic. of the Yacht Northern Light, and won by Mr. Harold George's Victory, Mr. R. .1. Thompson's Wnione being second. The club's representative. Master V. Field, won the Trevic Shield, presented by Mr. W. A. Johnston lor inter-club racing in the 12ft Oin class. Captain H. 11. Sersennt, who presented the prizes, congratulated the winners, and especially Mr. George, of the Victory, on his strenuous race in heavy weather. The other cup winners wore Mr. A. W. Tarntins Maid Marion (Star class), the Brett Cup: Mr. R. J. Cunningham's Fay, the Eliot Davis Cup: Mr. E. Shroff's Octavia S the Ailsa Craig Cup; Messrs. Patrick and Clokc's Speedwell, the Club Cup: Mr. R. Conley's Huln. tho White Cup: and Mr. W. Ramsay's Namu the Heolin Cup. Fay also won the 14-foot championship, and Mr. Thompson's Waione the points prize. When ho received the Bnlokovic Cup. Mr. George, at the request of Captain Sergeant, gave a short review of the race. Mr. W. A. Johnston, who presented the Trevic Shield thanked tho club for carrying out the contest for tho first year, and congratulated them on winning it. The trophy was given to promote interest by the boys, and he felt sure that it would achieve this purpose. Supper was served on the ground floor, which was tastefully decorated with large ferns and evergreens, the gift of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Webster.
