ON TRENTHAM TRACKS.

WEATHERSTEP GOES FAST. PAHU SCHOOLS WELL. The weather was beautifully line for galloping at Trentham yesterday morning, and horses engaged at next week's meeting were set to do useful tasks. Tho outside of the course proper provided easy going, and was not greasy as on Tuesday. The best trials were probably those of Wcatherstep, Purse, Flower and Lyrical on the Hat, and Pahu again over the hurdles. Normandy (H. Hunt) went off from the six furlongs, and, after a slow first furlong, was picked up by Moab Queen (GF. Dick) at tho five furuongs, but he found the improving filly, who had an advantage in weights, always a length or so too good for him. lie ran tho six furlongs in 1.22 4-5, five furlongs in 1.5 4-5 and the last half-mile, in 51 4-ss. Flower (A. Leach) hopped away from the five furlongs, and picked up Purse (S. Wilson) at tho half-mile, the pair finishing together. The live furlongs took 1.4 4-5, and the last half-mile 50s. Both fillies are very fit. Might (I. Rohloli) required 1.8 for five furlongs, tho last half-mile in 53 3-ss. Gay Court (T. Young) did live furlongs' in 1.6, the final half-mile in ols. Historic (J. Gunn) strode over six furlongs in 1.26. Tobaccoland (T. Young) was also sent over six furlongs, but was not timed, though it was apparent he was doing his work well at the end. S. J. Cammick is to ride him in his Trentham engagements. New Era (Dick) finished several lengths in front of Cape of Good Hope (W. E. Sliancl) at the end of half a mile in's2s. The latter ran oft the course early, and when ho was got back the filly had a substantial lead on him. Black Mint (Wilsc.nl finished better than Royal Game (Leach) at the close of an easy mile in 1.49. the finiij half-mile in 555. Royal Game was stopping at the finish.

A Lazy Worker. Cardinal Moon (W. 11. Jones) was sent from the seven furlongs -to the half-mile at a strong half-pace, then came home fast, but the watch did not catch him. He is a lazy customer who apparently has to bo kept up to his work. Araios (D. J. Burgess) did five furlongs in I.G 1-5, the final half-mile in 51 4-os. Azure (D. Gunn) ran the same distance in ].8, the final half-mile in 525. Both carried bit? weights. Solitaire (Dick) registered 51 2-5s for the last half-mile of five furlongs, and Weatherstep (Shand) slipped over the final half-mile of five furlongs in 40 4-os. Weatherstep, who does not come in till the second day, gave evidence that she had not lost any of her old pace, and her final half-mile was the best of the morning. Miss Beatrice (J. Gunn) and Cape Paraki (I. KohlofF) sprinted down the straight, the former finishing half a length in front. Cimabue (Wilson) was under a pull throughout an easy six furlongs in 1.30. Gold Sand beat Arrowzone (Rohloff) by a length over half a mile in 51 4-ss. Prince Pombal (Leach) required 55 3-5s for an easy halfmile. Lyrical (Wilson) always held the upper hand over Eminent (Leach) in their five furlongs in 1.5 2-5, the last half-mile in 51 2-ss, and she came home a length and a half in front. Joie de Val (Shand) did a working gallop over seven furlongs in 1.36 2-5, the final half-mile in 54 3-ss: K. Voitre is to ride her in the Whyte Handicap next Wednesday. Aroma (Shand) proved to have too much speed for Bright Song (Leach), beating her older rival by a couple of lengths over five furlongs in 1.5 4-5, the last half-mile in 52 1-os. Vitaphone (A. Jenkins) again did a complete round (over a mile and a quarter), running the last mile in 2.0, and the final half-mile in 57 l-ss. He was always going easily within himself. The Jumpers. The only fencing exhibition was that in which Pahu (M. H. Nicql) and Simeon (A. Jenkins) were associated over the three schooling hurdles. Pahu jumped much faster than his rival, and was three lengths in front at the final fence. Simeon was very careful with the fences and jumped very big. Afterwards the pair ran a mile on the course proper together, taking 1.1 for the first half and 57 4-5s for the last half. The only additional arrival for the meeting noticed out was Adventus, who did pace work on the sand track. The chestnut, who claims engagements in the open hurdling events, looks fit and well. SCHOOLING AT AWAPUNI. At Awapuni yesterday Pangolin (Miles) did a round of the big fences, jumping well, then galloped six furlongs on the course proper in 1.30. The Panmure gelding has built up into a solid-looking horse. Henry of Navarre (Shearman) and Warzone (F. Thompson) were companions on the hurdle track. Although they were together at the close, Henry of Navarre appeared to be going the stronger. The Birkdale gelding Riotous (Miles) was sent over the battens, giving a promising display. Callamart (Thompson) and Trouble (Miles) went a couple of rounds over the steeplechase fences. Callamart outjumped the hunter on the final round and was pulled out wide to allow Trouble to work on terms as they came across the top. They then went on to finish on terms. A good pace was maintained and the schooling effort was highly satisfactory. Easterly (C. Robinson) and Conjurer 11. (Miles) jumped away at he top of the straight on the hurdle track, being joined by Rioghail (A. McDonald) as they turned into the back. The novice fenced like a veteran and was with Easterly at the close. Conjurer 11. did not appear to relish his work and was a couple of lengths back at the finish. PREPARING FOR NEXT SEASON. A. Kemp has not had Wee Pat up any length of time, but she is rounding up nicely and should be well forward by the time the spring meetings arrive. This filly has not had much racing- experience, but when in work earlier in the season she displayed a fair amount o" pace and is a likely improver. Patutahi, in the same stable, is also doing well again after a short spell, and should show up in hurdle races later on. AN OFFER REFUSED. An offer of IOOOgs was made during the week-end for Shamfight, who won at Oamaru last Saturday, but his owner showed no inclination to sell.
