FOILS KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT. William E. Martin, alleged tc have escaped from Roekview Penitentiary and to have, attempted to kidnap and attack Myra Atkins, 12 years old, daughter of socially prominent parents, was arrested at Philadelphia as the result of the. pluck of tho girl's mother. Tho child and her mother, Mrs. Lillian Atkins, were shopping in West Philadelphia. While Mrs. Atkine was in a fruit store, her da lighter remained on the sidewalk. Martin drove up in an automobile and asked the child to get in beside him, according to the police. Then ho drove into an-alley where, the police charge, ho attempted to attack her. Then ho backed tho car out and started to drive away. Mrs. Atkins, looking for her daughter, saw her in the car, screamed and jumped on the running board. Despite Martin's efforts to push her to the street, sho hung on until policemen and bystanders forced Martin to stop.
