The chairman, Mr. W. A. Bishop, in commenting on the estimates brought before tho meeting by the clerk, Mr. C. A. Cawkwell, said that if they were carried out the council would be in a satisfactory position at the end of the year. Economy measures practised during the year had left the council in a Rood position to face the next 12 months. The sum of £2SOG had been saved in overhead and administration charges. There would be little or no road construction this year, as the prospect of obtaining Public Works grants was uncertain and the main highways vote for maintenance purposes had been reduced. The general and loan interest rates fixed were as follow, the amounts for the previou-s year being shown in parentheses:—
