BANANAS A CHEAP LINE.
BIG SUPPLY OF ORANGES
EGG PRICES UNCHANGED. Large quantities of oranges arrived from Sydney this week, and sold at low rat--s. Supplies of bananas are very heavy just now, and lower prices had to be accepted. Apples and pears are meeting with poor demand. Sydney pines have now been cleared. Selected Delicious apples, packed for export and then not shipped, are seill being sold at auction at cheap rates. Grapes have met with less inquiry latterly, and prices for hothouse_ grown eased. White grapes are still coming torward from Australia. Quotations are: — Apples: Delicious, special export 5/9 to 0/ per ease, others 3/ to 0/; Jonathan, 4'6 to 15/6; Ballarats, 4/ to 5/; Munroes, 4/ to 5/; Granny Smith, 5/ to 0/; others V to 4/0. Pears: Coles and Nelie, 1/ to 7/0; Keiffcrs, 2/ to 4/; P. Harrys, 4/ to 5/. Cape gooseberries: 3d to 4d lb. I'assioiis: 0/ to 10/. Tree tomatoes: 3/ to 0/. Grapes: Hothouse, Colman, 1/6 to 2/lVs lb- Australian white, 14/ to 10/ case. Oranges: Tsland, 10/ to 15/6; Australian, 7' to 9/ bushel case, large 12/6 to 14/. Lemons: 3/ to 7/ case. Mandarins: Australian. 0/ to 8/. Bananas: No. 1, repacked, ripe, 8/6 to 9/3; No 2 and medium. 5/ to 7/6. Tomatoes: Local, nothouse, 6/ to 11/: outdoor, 3/ to 8/. Poorman oranges: 2/0 to 0/6. Vegetables. Pumpkins are still in very heavy supply, and sales are hard to effect. Although fewer pie melons are now being sent in the demand remains very poor and prices rail! low. Regular lots of kumaras are now being sent in from Tauranga, and meet with fair demand. Cabbage are still plentiful, and large quantities of celery came to hagd. Limited quantities of new potatoes came forward, including some from Albany and Kaitaia. However, there is little demand for these, as Southern are so cheap, and they went for Id to l%d per lb. Quotations are:— Potatoes: Southern, 8/6 to 8/9 cwt. Onions: 8/ to 0/ bag, or 20/ cwt. Kumaras: Local. 3/ to 4/ ba«; Tauranga. 2/0 to 3/(5. Cabbage: 1/ to 4/ sack. Cauliflower: 0/ to 9/. Swedes: 1/6 to 2/3 bag. Pumpkins: 2/ to 4/6 cwt. Citron melons: 2/ sack. Green ncas: Od to 7d lb. Beans: M to 7/6 ease. Lettuce, 1/ to 2/6. Cucumbers: Hothouse. 4/ to 5/6 dozen. Vegetable marrows: 1/6 to 3/. Cabbage: Loose. 1/ to 2/. Cauliflower: Loose, 1/ to 6/. Celery: Od to 2/3 bundle. Spinach, Od to Dd dozen. Rhubarb: 1/ to 3/. Pumpkins: Loose, 2d to 8d each. Radish: 0d to 1/ dozen. Spring onions: 6d to 10d bundle. Carrots, parsnips, beet, and turnips: 3d to 8d dozen. Brussels sprouts: 3d to 4 , /&rl lb. Leeks: l%d to 3d bundle.- Chokos: 6d to 1/ dozen.
Eggs and Butter. The quantity of eggs sent in was quite equal to the market requirements, and prices are unchanged. Quotations are: — First grade hen and duck eggs, 1/UVi dozen; B grade, 1/7%; C grade, 1/5V£. Farmers' butter sells at 8d to lid per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain level. Selling rates were as follows: —Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 2/9 to 4/9 each, not prime 1/6 up; light breeds, prime 1/6 to 3/, not prime 1/ up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, urime, 1/6 to 2/; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/0. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 2/ to 2/9; light breeds, 1/3 to 1/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best 3/ to 5/, smaller 1/6 up; light breeds, best 3/ to 5/, smaller 1/6 up. Drakss: Young, prime, 1/9 to 2/9; smaller, 1/6 up. Ducks: Young, 2/6 to 3/6; old, 1/6 to 2/. Drakes: Old. 1/6 to 1/9. Turkey hens, 2/0 to 4/; gobblers, 4/ to 10/. CHRISTCHURCH PRICES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Radley and Frampton, fruit auctioneers, Christchurcb, report an excellent demand for all varieties of spring flowers. Values during the week have ruled as follows: — Sol d or, short stems 4d to sd, long stems 6d to 8d; Paper Whites, l<l to 2d; Romans, 2d to 3d, all per bunch; Iris, 2d per stem; Iceland poppies, 6d to 8d bunch. Daily consignments are recommended. Passions, good samples, 12/6, with good demand.
