SOMER.VILLE STILL UNBEATEN NORTH SHORE LUCKY TO DRAW. The championship matches under the auspices of the Auckland Hockey Association advanced another stage on Saturday afternoon at the Remuera grounds. The senior games were staged early to enable the selector to judge the players in a trial , match before making his selection of the Auckland team to meet Waikato in the Championship Shield match at Remuera. The trial game was tame, and resulted in a draw, two goals apiece. Somerville maintained the lead in the championship, defeating Mount Eden by five goals to one. St. Luke's accounted for University by two goals to one, the tick of the watch preventing the students making honours even. Wesley rose to championship points in a drawn game ot three goals apiece against North (shore. SOMERVILLE V. MT. EDEN. Through the agency of E. Watts Somerville scored in the first few minutes. Somerville 1, Mount Eden 0. Mount Eden then attacked, but the whites were soon back again, and from a corner C. watts landed a splendid goal. Somerville A Mount Eden 0. After being on the delensive Hedges set Somerville in motion, and Mount Eden escaped with a corner, but it was not long before Somerville were again goal-hunting, E. Watts finding the not. Somerville 3, Mount Eden 0. A sortie by Mount Eden looked promising, but Clark took too long to shoot. Somervlllo worked along the right flank. Blundering by Smith gave Fletcher an opening, and he streaked for tho circle, but his dallied shot was smothered. However, a corner eventuated. Twice Hedges initiated attacks which Ash nullified by hitting high over the boundary. A moment later E. Watts almost slipped through, but the ball crossed the goal line. From a free hit Mount Eden gained a footling in tho circle. Potter shot hard, but It was stopped by Vail, and a fast shot from Jones suffered similarly, but Mount Eden were not to be denied, and just before half? time Fletcher scored off a rebound.

Mount Eden -were first away when the prame restarted and held Somervillc on the defensive. A good run enabled Ash, to reach the circle; but Vail was in the way. Another sortie with Fletcher at the liead looked dangerous, but Eden's shooting failed. Somerville attacked, E. Watts breaking away and Mount Eden were forced. Following a corner the Eden goal was subject to heavy bombardment, but. A. Horspool eventually cleared. A fine run by E. Watts was stopped In the goal mouth, and Eden resumed the attack. A run by Fletcher and Clark cornered Somerville and a moment later Ash broke through but only to find Vail in the way. Gurr cleared and Wellbourne and Watts carrying on. Seccombe passed to B. Watts, who hit high into the net. Sonierville 4, Mount Eden 1.

After some give and take play E. Watts made another opening and Seceombe scored from very short range with a peculiar stroke. Somerville 5, Mount Eden 1,

Mount Eden replied with a fine combined run and a couple of corners resulted in Jones pulling the ball each side of the goal. From a twenty-five bully Glanville broko away and transferring to B, Watts, ho returned hut Glanville's shot missed. The game ended :— Somerville 5 Mount Eden ...I 1 Messrs. E. J. Hewitt and G. E. Waddington refcrccd. ST. LUKE'S V. UNIVERSITY. St. Luke's forwards broke through from the bully and, after a bout of play around the circle, a chance came to Brown, who netted with an angle shot. St. Luke's 1, 'Varsity 0. The reds were quickly about the student circle, and several shots narrowly missed, untjl N. Wilsou cleared upfield. A. Brown improved thn blues' position, but Wilson's progress was stopped by Williams, and play returned to the student's quarters. Closo. play in the circle followed till Vipond connected and netted. St. Luke's 2, 'Varsity 0. The students then became aggressive until McLcod turned the attack, and Grace at once opened an offensive. 'Varsity conceded a penalty cornor, but sticks against Burnett brought the blues relief. The students broke away, and St. Luke's conceded a penalty corner. Bay's shot was well stopped by Watfnni, but Brown followed in fast and netted. St. Luke's 2. 'Varsity 1. Sharp attacks by St. Luke's followed, and several hard shots were turned aside by Crawley. St. Luke's next attacked from the right, but Brown stopped and play returned to midlield. Bay broko through and Wattam conceded a penalty corner. Half-time was called :

Upon resuming St. Luke's wore first away, McLeod taking the ball to the circle. A free hit relieved the students, who immediately transferred to the red's circle, thn ball crossing the lino. Fast play up and down field followed for some time. A penalty corner impnovod the rod's position, and a few moments later Vipond missed the net. Down the right swept, the students, and from the centre exciting moments in thn goal mouth followed until St. Luke's conceded a corner. Bay got nwa.v, hut tu the circle Clnrk tackled nnd a dangerous situation was removed. Time was called shortly afterwards:

In the second spell piny gravitated between the circles until Blimey got. away and. gaining the danger zono, scored. Wesley 3, North Shore 2. During the latter phnse of the game A. Anthony worked through, evening the scores. North Shore 3 Wesley 3 Mr. R. Avery refereed. SHIELD TEAM. The following team lias been selected by Mr. W.
