OPOTIKI, this day,
Laurel Kelly, aged four, a daughter of Mr. and Mr*. P. C. Kelly, was dressing before an open fire when the draught down the chimney caused the flames to leap out and set fire to the child's nightdress. Heir sister endeavoured to beat the flames out, but by this time the nightdress was practically burnt off the girl's back. The terrified child rushed to the door, where her mother pulled off the burning clothing. The child, who was badly burned, was immediately taken to the' Public Hospital. ' Mrs. Kelly also sustained painful burns on the hands.
