LEYS INSTITUTE

HISTORICAL . STUDIES. The weekly meeting of the Leys Institute Literary and Debating Union was held last evening in the Leys Institute, Mr. P. VV. Castle presiding. The meeting took the form of historical figureheads of history, and instructive and interesting surveys wore given by Mr. A. P. Kayo (Robert Ingersoll), Mr. A. Clarke ( Alexander Dumas), Mr. J. C. Black (Earl of Birkcnhead). Mr. K. L. Slylield (Guigeppc Garibaldi), and Miss A. King (Pitt). Arrangements were finalised for the Atheneum Cup contest to be held on Thursday next, when the Leys team will meet the Papatoctoe Debating Union, taking the affirmative side in a debate '"That indifference lias done more bavin than intolerance." Mr. J. A. C. Allum notified the union that lie would address a meeting in July and tuke for liis subject "The Auckland Transport Syetem."
