SUPERANNUATION FUNDS. «SO LONG AS THERE IS A GOVERNMENT." Ml!. MURDOCH'S DECLARATION. (By Telegraph.—Owu Correspondent.) WHANGARTCI, this day. Reference to Civil Service superannuation funds was made last evening by the member for Marsden, Mr. A. J. Murdoch, in the course of a review of recent legislation. He said that the contributions of civil servants were supposed to be subsidised by the Government, and Miecesgive Administrations had borrowed from them, realising that the commitments would not all fall due at once. So long as there was a Government, superannuation money would always be paid when it fell due. It was realised, however, the speaker said, that many payments under the fund were too high. The same thing was realised in 1908, when an enactment was made limiting the amount payable to i-'MH) per annum. However, certain individuals had retired on superannuations up to £2UOO, and it was realised that when "cute" were made in salaries and wages some reduction in these large amount? should follow. It had never been intended, Mr. Murdoch declared, to touch the superannuations of the rank and file.
