KIDNAPPERS GAOLED

GEORGIA GANG CONVICTED

PEORIA (Ga.), June 2

Coincident with the Lindbergh ease. Dr. James Parker was kidnapped and held for £2000 ransom, but the police seized and arrested 11 of the gang and freed Parker unharmed. A jury found eight of them guilty and they were sentenced to from five to 25 years.

They included James Betson, who had been a city detective for 25 years. He was a candidate for Mayor and conspired witli Joseph Pursi'fal, a former police magistrate, who was the intermediary in the ransom negotiations. The latter confessed and was sentenced to five years.

It was one of those rare instances since kidnapping became a nation-wide menace that the victim was confronted with his abductors and his story led to their conviction.
