OBITUARY.
MRS. S. A. MACK.
The death of Mrs. Sarah Annis Mack at Chapel Street, Papakura, removes a pioneer who had lived for 00 years m the district. She was born in Stalybridge, Lancashire, England, and arrived in Auckland when four years of ago with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Grundy, by the sailing ship Ma tonka on January 5, ISGS, after a passage of 110 days. She resided in Onehunga for seven years, and then went with her parents to Papakura, where she has resided for the past sixty years. In 18T9 she was married by the late Rev. Thos. Nome to Mr. James Mack, of Ballynahinch, County Down, Ireland, who predeceased her some eight years ago. Deceased will be well remembered by the older generation of the district for the services she rendered a nurse, covering a period of 50 years. For a long time no doctor was resident nearer than Otahuhu, and in the course of her work on many occasions she was called upon to travel daily, on foot, long distances over rough country roads to the outlying parts of the then .sparsely populated district. Her work was not confined to the local neighbourhood, but at times by special request of former patients who hud confidence in her ability to attend to them in their time of need, she went to various parts of the province. Slio leaves three surviving sons, four daughters, and 30 grandchildren. Iter eldest son, Mr. Robert Mack, passed away in 1923 from the effects of war service.
