FELLOWSHIP OF SERVICE SCHEME.
' In connection with the distress among ' unemployed families in the city revealed in ' Dr. Barraclough's report of his work with the Auckland City -Mission, I would sup, seat that, something could be done here on the lines \ of Miss M. E. Richmond's Fellowship of Service scheme, recently started in Wellington'. ' The idea of the scheme is that every well-off woman visits one needy family, and one only'. Friendship, not charity; friendly aid in time of need is the aim of the movement. The scheme is intended to supplement charitable organisations already in existence; their help and approbation are sought. Each visitor who begins visiting- will a.?k one or more of her friends to start also, and so the good work will spread. It is distressing to hear that in spite of all that is being done in Auckland hundreds of children and adults arc suffering from want of sufficient food, and it certainly does seem, as Dr. Barraclough says, that "something in addition to the work of the Charitable Aid Board and organisations must be done to meet the situation." My wife and I will be very glad to give further information about Miss Richmond's scheme to anyone interested. W. F. KENNEDY, Sliortland Flcts.
