MOTOR CYCLING.
HUNDRED LAPS. RACE AT MANGERE. OXLY FOUR COMPLETE. The old Scriptural prophecy that the first shall be last was fulfilled at Mangere laet Saturday, in the Auckland Sports Motor Cycle Club's 125-mile (100lap) race. Those who jumped away at the start determined .to do their 100 rounds of the track regardless of everything came back to the pits earJv in tiie race, to watch the old slow-but-sures ticking off the distance.
In the last laps, machines and riders were as tired as racehorse*. For such a long race the pace had been tarrific, all the machines averaging well over 00 m.p.h., and most of them had already been to the pit« more than once for running repairs. From the sixtieth lap, F. Snow, of Kotorua, on a Norton, had led the field, but after completing hia ninetyeighth lap he had to pull in to refuel. Thereafter he could not get his machine jioing properly again. lie crawled half way round
