Consent sprinted down the straight, and Fairway also <li<l strong work. Neither horse was timed. Sports King ran six furlongs in 1.26 1-5, and was finishing on at the end. The hurdlers Easterly and Balloon wore given strong work over a mile and a half, but were not after time. The best halt' mile of the morning was recorded by All Humbug, who beat Lucy Rose comfortably in 51 2-ss. This was a first-class effort, and All Humbug was going exceptionally well at the finish. High Pitch and Arikira worked over a couple of rounds on the sand, running their last seven furlongs in 1.43 4-5. High Pitch did his work in great style. Little Doubt and King's Archer went away slowly from the seven-furlong post and finished up in 1.40 1.-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.23 1-5. Little Doubt was kept up to his work at the finish and beat hiscoinpauion by a couple of lengths, but King's Archer could have been closer up.

Ruling King, who ran unplaced in the first division of the Jervois Handicap at Ellerslio last Friday, will not be raced a-'ain until next season. This hack won W minor event at the Avondale meeting m the autumn, and as lie possesses abundance of speed and comes from a sucoesslu racing family, more is likely to be heard of him later on.

When .Standfast fell while contesting the Great Northern Hurdles ho injured one of his hocks, and conscqquontly had to forego his later engagements for the meeting. R. Matecr has the Valkyrian gelding in great fettle, and it is to be hoped that the injury will not be serious enough to put him out of action for any length of time. In his earlier form over hurdles Standfast displayed a fair amount of promise for a novice, and ho is a horse likely to do considerably better with more i experience.
