HIKURANGI POSITION

MEN TO REMAIN OUT. WARO MINE NOT* AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. The position as far as the strike at the Hikurangi Coal Company's mine is concerned in unchanged. For the paist week the men have been waitinr for a decision from the National Union, and, as the Dominion-wide ballot resulted in a two-to-one majority favouring a national strike, the Hikurangi men will remain out. As in the case of the Wilton and Rotowaro mines, the Waro colliery is not affected, as, according to Mr. J. Scott Davidson, the managing director, the mine will continue. "We have a contract of SOO tons of coal a week to produce," he said, "and we will continue to do so until September at leant, and by then the strike will probably be over." Mr. Davideon explained that the Waro colliery had no agreement with the National Union, and was not bound by its decision.

Regarding the Co-operative Colliery, Mr. C. Latham, secretary of the Hikuraugi branch of tl?o Miners' Union, said that as long as the output from the Waro mine was not increased the union would take no action.

Mr. Latham said that the Hikurangi mine strikers had as yet received no ultimatum from the owner*, as reported from the Waikato, and that the safety men would continue at the mine.
