CORNER FOR BUSY BEES
A PRETTY COAT POSY. CROCHETED FLOWER SPRAY. (Conducted by TINKERBELL.) Dear Girls, — I was so pleased the other day to receive a letter from ore of my Busy Sees who had read my suggestions regarding the making of posies. .' ha writer, Joan Johnston, a 5« 17 ; o: Kaitala, told of yet anjlatv vay of making these sprays, and because many Busy Bees are interested in crochet work, I hand on to you ail Joan's ideas. I suppose you all love posies. I think everyone does, and now that w.ntcr is here it is very handy to have a pretty, eailyt-coloured flower spray to pin on your coat. Joan's posy seems very attractive, and, by the way, she stresses the fact that thick emb*o:(sery U:read must be used in the malting of it. However, I.witl let Joan explain to you just hpw her. posy is made. She writes: — "My coat is dark brown. I made the posy of orange, gold and lemort flowers, with bright brown icoves. "i he
flowers were of various sizes and of different shapes, as you see by the sketch some round, some with small petals, and some with four large petals. Th*> cent-res I made with black or bright blue wool, using a needle instead of the crochet hook. For the stems I used fairly pliable black millinery wire, making a small hook on one end to push through the centre of the flower. To keep it in position wind green -wool round the loop and the back of the flower. The stems I left black, but they could also be wound with wool if they were preferred green. "The leaves, roughly oval, were crocheted from a midrib and gradually broadened in the middle. The wire was pushed up the middle and fastened with a loop near the top and also at the bottom of the leaf. "When I had made sufficient flowers and leaves I wound very fine wire round the stems to keep them in position. I then fastened a small safety pin at the back and my posy was complete." Should any of you decide to crochet one of these posies, be sure and choose bright shades for your embroidery thread. You will find that a gailycoloured spray makes your dark winter coat look fresh and attractive.
