AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

GREAT NORTHERN MEETING. NEXT WEEK'S ACCEPTANCES. SPLENDID FIELDS ENGAGED. Excellent acceptances have been received for the first day of the Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie next Friday; also for the Great Northern Steeplechase to be run on the second day.

There were no surprise defections in the hurdles. Otairi has been lame recently, and it was stated a little while ago that he would probably not start.' His withdrawal leaves Make Up, Landmark and Prince Lu at the head of the field, and Make Up, if he goes along all right in the meantime, will start favourite. Xukumai is given a chance by some good judges in the South, while Luminary will also have a lot of friends. High Pitch looked as though he was not far from his best when he raced at Te Kapa. Easterly has won her last three races on end, including the Century Hurdle Race at Wanganui, while Calkunart has a Grand National Hurdle Race to his credit. Advance Camp has iron over two miles at Ellerslie, and was second in the Open Hurdles at Te Kapa last week, which was liis first race for Home time. Luccvc, was second in the Great Northern Hurdles last year, while Full .Mark ami Balloon have shown good form in the South. Clareinore and Nassock look the best of the others. Just now the most fancied may be Make Up, Fullniark, Luminary, Advance Camp, Easterly, High Pitch and Lucess. The Steeplechase.

Seventeen are accepted for in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Wiltshire l'uced well at Eguiont, but went sore just before the Waikato meotiujj last week. However, lie has been paid up fc>r« so that he must have recovered. Billy Boy line shown ability to jump the Ellcrslie country well and lie will have support. Make Up won the Egmont Steeplechase, and lnic* since schooled brilliantly at Ellerslie. His task oi winning the double thie year hae been made more difficut by the tact that the big races are run on consecutive days, there being no interval between. However, he will have to be seriously considered. Paris has won over Ellerslie, Xrentham and Ricca'rton country, and should be an improved horse this season. Landmark won the Waikato Steeplechase laet week, but Claremore lather disappointed in that event, being unplaced. Master Lu won the Great Northern Steeplechase last year, and has schooled well during the last few weeks. He will have a good deal of support. NukuinTii won over steeples at Egmont, while Lucess was third in this event last season, and occupied a similar position in the last Grand National Steeplechase. Beau Cavalier has not raced for some time. Copcy, who won the Wanganui Steeplechase, and has previously shown good form over the big fences at Ellerelic, will have plenty of admirers. Those who will command motst attention just now arc Master Lu, Billy Boy, Make Up, Paris, Lucess and Copcy. The Cornwall Handicap. Historic still remains at the head of the Cornwall Handicap field, and at the Waikato meeting last Saturday he looked as though he would not .be lons in Retting into proper racing condition. He has handled bigger -weights successfully in the past, and if he goee along well in his track work he will have to be reckoned with. Arikira has shown good form up to a mile and three furlongs, while Little Doubt has won hi.s last two races, and is a very lit horse at present. King's Archer disappointed at Te Rapa, but both Sunny Sky and Vandyke have been working well at Ellerslie. Gay Cockade dead-heated for second place in thw event last year and has 'been getting through his work at headquarters in pleasing style. Imamint, True Shaft and Limeeu may be the best of the others. Some who may bo in demand just now are Little Doubt, Historic, Arikira, Vandyke, Sunny Sky and Gay Cockade.
