CHESS TOURNEYS.
Record entries have been received for the Auckland Chess Club's winter tourneys. In the championship there will be lo players, and the same number in the open handicap. There are eight contestants in the intermediate level and seven in the minor level. Play in the championship, intermediate and minor levels commences on Monday night, and win continue every Monday until the games are concluded. The play for the open handicap will be commenced on Thursday, June 2, and thereafter will be held each Thursday night.

Minor Level.—Stubbs v. Turner, Lingard v. Lawson, Halliday v. Aylett, R. Jones, a bye."
