GOLFER FAREWELLED.
AIX-ROTJND SPOXTSMATf.
GOOD WISHES TO H. T. BRDJSDEN.
The "fairway" at the Auckland Commercial Travellers' Club vas in excellent order this morning when members gathered to bid farewell t« one of their number, Mr. H. D. ("Cus") Brinsden, Auckland's representative in the KirkWindeyer Cup contest, which is to be played in Australia neit month.
Mr. Brinsden was presented with a gold-mounted umbrella, a pair of golf hose and a bos of bulls, and with the gifts went the cordial wishes of his many friends in Auckland and the district. Mr. I. Brown, president of the club, who presided, laid he was not aware of the correct galling phraseology, but probably it was correct to sav, in racing parlance, that Mr. Brinsden waa going to compete in tie "Derby" of Australian and New Zealand golf. Not only was Mr. Brinsden en excellent golfer, but he also excelled at cricket, football, hockey and even ping-pong. (A voice: "What about bridge?") To- this sally there was a roar of laughter.
Mr. L. Mitchell and Mr. E. O'Dowd also added felicitations. Mr. Mitchell said that if marks were awarded for all-> round excellence in both indoor and outdoor games Mr. Brinsden would not be far from the top.
The Kirk-Windeyer Cup matches will probably be played on the course of the Rose Bay Club at Sydney. The New Zealand team is as follows: —H. D> Brinsden (Titirangi), Kana Wagg and H. Black (Miramar, Wellington), Brian Silk (Wanganui), J. Hornabrook (Masterton). Mr. Brinsden will sail by the Monowai from Wellington on Tuesday.
