TIDAL LANDS.

WHANGAREI RECLAMATION.

SURVEY PARTIES WORKING.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, this day.

At the meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday the engineer reported that two survey parties under the instruction of the district engineer, were already working on the tidal lands reclamation. He understood that another Public Works survey party would arrive shortly, and that concentration was being made on the lines south from Kioreroa. At the same time it was possible that a survey would be made between the new port and the town of Whangarei. Alternate routes for the road linking Kioreroa and Whangai - ei were discussed. Mr. J. F. Holmes said that the Borough Council had some years ago prepared a road line running in front of Hoey's property and linking up with lower Cameron Street, which connection he thought would be best for the town. The feasibility of a road passing the borough at the town wharf or Robert Street was also mentioned, but the chairman and other members stressed the need for cooperation with the Borough Council in this most important matter.

Mr. Fraser estimated the life of the wharf, which is now being removed from Onerahi and re-elected at Kioreroa, at 20 years.
