APPRECIATIVE MAORIS.

GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S GIFT. The Akarana Maori Association, in a letter to the Governor-General expressing appreciation of his Excellency's gift to the State of the house and historic site where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, writes: "We continue to look confidently to the treaty as our present and future guidance in those affairs wherein the interests of the Maori and pakeha unite." The association also states that, despite the misunderstandings which have arisen, the treaty has always served as a beacon to direct both races" on the pathway to their joint national destiny.
