SURPRISES IN BRITISH OPEN. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. In the second roum'. of the British amateur golf championship at Muirfleld, Leonard Martin (New York), who eliminated the holder, Eric Martin-Smith in the first round, was defeated. However, another American, David Martin, aged 23, of California (not related to Leonard) provided another ' surprise by defeating L. O. Crawley, holder of the English close championship. In addition to Crawley, other nominees for the British Walker Cup team in Rex. Hartley, W. Hartley and T. Torrance all went down to lesser-known players. The last American left, David Martin, lost to-day to the young Cheshire player, Shaw, who finished 2 up.
