WOULD RETALIATE.
Canadian Attitude to New U.S. Tariffs. LUMBER AND COPPER. (Kccelvctl 1 p.m.) OTTAWA, May 25. The United States tariff increases on lumber and copper, practically creating an embargo, arc drawing widespread Canadian demands for retaliation. In British Columbia it is stated that half the mills and the Britannia Minee and Copper Plant —the largest in the Empire —would have to close. The Prime Minister, Mr. R. B. Bennett, in the House of Commons, answering demands for retaliation, stated that he doubted if tho new duties will pass cither Congress or the President's power of veto.
INDIAN CRICKETERS.
BAD START AT HAMPSHIRE. (Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 25. Playing against Hampshire, the All India cricket eleven was dismissed for 51 runs. Bailey took five wiekete for 24 runs, and Kennedy four for 15. The county scored 201 for seven wickets (Arnold 113, Kennedy 50).
