QUITE UNJUSTIFIED.
Brutal Actions of Liberian Government. HUNDRED NATIVES KILLED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, May 25. Information has been received through the League of Nations that military operations on the Kru Coast of Liberia have resulted in the destruction of numerous villages and the loss of more than 100 lives. The British Foreign Secretary, Sir John Simon, in the House of Commons, stated that the present situation was that some 1200 natives had been driven by the forces of the Liberian Government from their ruined villages into the bush in a manner which admitted of no excuse and on grounds which, taken at their strongest, were wholly inadequate. The League Council had recently been considering the remedial measures proposed by the Liberia Committee. He would continue' to do everything in his power to ensure that these measures were both speedy and effective.
