m ' WHANGAREI TOURNEY. ,By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAKEI, this day. There was a satisfactory attendance at the Town Hall last evening, when an amateur boxing tournament was staged by the Whangarei Boxing Association. The boxing generally was of a good standard, with two particularly brilliant exhibitions. M. Painter (Whangarei) and I. Hogg (Auckland), Harry Hughes (Whangarei) and A. Spragg (Auckland) were the two outstanding exhibitions. During a bout with B. McConnell, B. Konewha, a Maori, broke his right arm just below the shoulder. Results were as follow: —SI. Hughes (7.5) beat F. Viscovitch (7.10) ; W. Lowe (9 0) beat J. F. Brown (9.7); H. Hughes (9.1) beat A. Spragg (9.0) ; K. Rika (6.0) beat E. Shilton (6.0); B. McConnell (11 6) beat B. Konewha (11.6) ; A. Howie (0.10) boat F. Cole (9.10): G. Gordon (4.0) and 11. Gordon (4.0) fought a draw: W. Williams (10:0) beat L. Khmd (10 0); S. Poll (3.13) beat A. Wellington (8.6); M. Kik-a (14.5) knocked out C. White (13.0) in the first round: C. Lacoy (5.7) bent J. Kisson (5.3) ; J. Hogg (S.O) be Mr A a C- "adman," of Hiturangl, was referee, and Messrs. K. Lowe and It. Pselson were judges. The decisions were well received. —=r=
