BLOW TO CANADA.
U.S. LUMBER DUTIES RAISED. WASHINGTON, May 24. The Senate last evening voted virtual embargoes against Canadian lumber and copper. The duty on lumber was raised from one dollar to three dollars per 1000 board feet, and a tarifT ol 4 cents a lb was imposed on copper. Hardwood flooring is exempted from the lumber duty. The increases are provided for in the Revenue Bill and unless they are removed when the bill goes to a compromise between the House of Representative#! and the Senate Canada stands to lose trade which was worth 28,000,000 dollars last year.
