LONDON WOOL SALES.

NEW SERIES OPENS. A POOR BEGINNING. CROSSBREDS DOWN AGAIN. (Heceived 11 a.m.) LONDON, May 24. At the fourth wool sales 11,242 bales were offered, including 5318 New Zealand. About 5060 were sold. There was a very poor selection of Merinos and a fair lot of crossbrede. There was a large attendance with fair competition and considerable withdrawals owing to the limits not being reached. Compared with April closing prices greasy Merinos were par to 5 per cent lower, faulty scoured, five; crossbreds, fine, five; medium, ten, and coarse, 12% per cent lower. New Zealand greasy crossbred, Ngapue, top price, 7'Ad; average, (3d; Comeback, Omaka Bend, S94d; slipe, hunbs, Gear, 8d and 7%d.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following report from - its London office under date 24th instant: —The sales opened with moderate competition and a large attendance. Compared with the close of last series ciosaoreds were '/id lower, with Merino unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency have received the following cable, dated London, May 24:—There was a jood attendance at the opening sales, competition by Home and Continental buyers being fairly active. The opening catalogues were not representative. As compared with i.ist sales' closing rates prices are lower Mid per lb lor greasy crossbred, and Mid to Id for scoured crossbred and crossbred slipe. Crossbred slipe clothing slightly easier. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 24th instant:—The wool sales opened. Attendance good. Selection mostly crossbreds, few offerings Merinos. Competition fair at lower levels. As compared with closing rates of last series, Merino par to Vid lower; greasy halfbred and greasy crossbred, fine, %d to %d lower; greasy crossbred. medium and coarse, %d lower; scoured crossbred. %d to Id lower; slipe halfbred, %d to %d lower; coarse and medium slipe. %d lower; slipe, inferior, %d to Id lower.
