Handson, of London, and Miss Mary Garden, of Wellington. * * o * Lady Carrick Robertson, who has been on a visit to her son's farm at Aramati, has returned to Auckland. * * * ♦ Miss Zena Blake, of Arney Bond, Remuera, has left for Rotorua, where she has joined the nursing staff of the King George V. Hospital. Miss Dorothy Deelev, of Wellington, is spending a holiday in Auckland, and is the guest of Miss Vera Derliam, St. Andrew's Road, Epsom. * * * * Mrs. Jack Brook, of Vincent Avenue, Ilemuera, Auckland, who met with a motor accident on Good Friday last while passing over Turangakuma, has recovered sufliciently to leave the Napier Hospital, and is now the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Brown, Taradale. SOCIAL GATHERINGS. A card evening was given by Mrs. E. Elliott at her residence, Lippiatt Road, in aid of the Otalmhu Croquet Club. The hostess received her guests in a frock of floral georgette. The winners of bridge were Mrs. R. George and Mr. G. Nixon, and of five hundred, Mrs. E. Piper. Mrs. J. Gillies, president of the club, presented the trophies and thanked Mrs. Elliott for the evening. Among the guests were: Mesdames J. Gillies, R. George, B. J. Parsons, H. Moflitt, E. Piper, R. Hickson, E. Patton, W. Morton, R. Rug?, J. Todd, G. Nixon, D. J. Williams, Ward, J. Ogilvie, Pengelly, Miss McLoghry. *** * * Mr. and Mrs. Walter Weaver, of Ingleside, Mount Albert, were entertained at a social evening in St. Margaret's Hall. Mr. Weaver had been superintendent of the Sunday school for the past three years and has found it necessary to relinquish the position. The vicar, Rev. R. G. Coats, on behalf of the Sunday school teachers and scholars, presented Mr. Weaver with a handsome gold-mounted fountain pen, and Mrs. Weaver received a bouquet. The vicar eulogised the good work done by the guests, and expressed regret at losing Mr. Weaver's services. * # * # A progressive 500 evening, under the auspices of the Taupiri Rugby League, was, held in Taupiri Hall on Saturday evening. The ladies' prize was won by. Mrs. N. Jackways, and the gentlemen's by Air. G. Windsor, the ladies' and gentlemen's consolation prizes went to Mrs. J. Shaw and Mr. M. Davis respectively. Gleeson. * * • » At the end of last week the Lake Farm Hall, Kainui, Taupiri, was the scene of a coming-of-age party for Roy Charles, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Hinton. The hall was prettily decorated with coloured balloons, streamers and ferns. Musical items were rendered by Misses Jf. Walter and M. Carlington and Master B. Forsyth, the remainder of the programme consisting of cards, games and dancing. Progressive 500 was won by Messrs. G. Walter and R. Dwyer. Miss Farmer and her partner, Mr. G. Wallace, won the spot waltz, while the Monte Carlo was won by Miss Griffiths and Mr. Harvey. Mr. A. War in? proposed the health of the guest and Mr. G. Walter replied. The Auckland Jewish Women's Benevolent Society held a bridge party yesterday afternoon in the reception hall of Milne and Choyce, Ltd. The object was to gather funds for materials to . make garments for all denominations of : the poor of Auckland. Mrs. G. Pezaro was the convener, and wore a gown of black georgette and satin. Two vocal items were rendered during the afternoon, the compose being an Auckland lady, Mrs. E. Kissen. The prize-winners were Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. S. Tong.
