SUNSET GLOW.

CAUSE OF THE PHENOMENA. VOLCANIC ASH FROM CHILE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. During the past couple of weeks people have been remarking upon tho brilliant flow often attendant upon sunsets, also of haloes round tho sun and moon. Such reports have come from a number of localities, and, moreover, there has been a noticeable drop in temperatures. One set of circumstances, according to Dr. Kidson, Director of Meteorological Services, will account for all these phenomena —that is, that the air circulating high over New Zealand lias become impregnated with light volcanic ash, carried by prevailing westerly air currents, from recent eruptions in Chile. It is too late in the season for the effects to come from bush lire smoke from Australia, besides which they have had rain over there lately.
