The British amateur golf championship opened at Muirfleld. In the first round Leonard Martin (U.S.A.) defeated the holder, Eric Martin-Smith, 1 up. When three up and four to play, Smith lost his nerve and missed short putts on three successive greens. ENGLISH BOXING. RENE MORRIS BEATS MASON. LONDON, May 23. Rene Morris defeated Ted Mason, of Maidstone, on points in a 10-round boxing contest.
