COUNTRY WORK
PLEDGE FROM SINGLE MEN. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT. Following the practice that has been in operation in the Auckland Province since the institution of the camp scheme, the Unemployment Board is asking all single men to give an undertaking that they will, if called upon, be prepared to accept employment in camps or other work in the country, as a condition of employment in the cities and towns. According to a circular issued to certifying officers, unless single men accept this condition or arc able to supply satisfactory reasons why they should not go to the country work when called upon, they will not be given relief in any form in the towns or cities. Single men who subsequently fail to carry out the undertaking they sign are to be stood down indefinitely from city reliet work, but if they abandon their attitude the certifying officer lias discretionary power to reoffer them work in the country.
